It's Summer and You Deserve a Break
Dear friends,
And all of a sudden, it's July. 2024 has already been a long year and even though we're now technically over halfway through, the second half is going to be quite a ride. So right now we're remind you—and ourselves—to take a break and take care. The news can feel hard and depressing, but I'm inspired everyday by this community. You deserve to have some fun this summer. For me, that means being in a body of water (any will do, honestly). Maybe for you, it's a hammock. Whatever it is, I wish you popsicles and Pellegrinos and pools.
If full relaxation isn't totally your vibe and you're still looking for a stylish yet subtle way to yell at the world while sidling up to the pool this summer (I get it), our Laws Aren't Real merch is still up! Snag a t-shirt or a hat. Maybe you need a tank top that says "Abortion is Essential." So many options!
Thank you for all you do, for staying in this fight with us, and for standing up for abortion seekers. You mean the world to us.
In solidarity,
Marisa Falcon
Executive Director
Say Hi at Netroots Nation 👋
I know we just said it's time to relax, but...sometimes there are conferences and you just gotta go! We're headed to Netroots Nation this week and we'd love to see you! This conference is one of the most anticipated recharging stations for progressives, and we can't wait to share our expertise and make connections. Stop by Booth 502, say hello, chat about practical support, and grab some sweet swag.
See you there! (And bonus points to you if you show up rocking some Apiary merch 🧢)
Partner Spotlight: Iowa PSOs and Abortion Funds 🫶
On the very last Friday in June, the Iowa Supreme Court upheld the state's six-week abortion ban, which had previously been blocked from going into effect. Now, abortions are banned after six weeks, before most folks even know they're pregnant. 18 states now ban most or all abortions. All of the Southeast and much of the Midwest are now abortion deserts.
That's why we're lifting up our comrades, the PSOs and abortion funds working in Iowa and across the region, who are doing everything they can to get abortion seekers the care they need, regardless of state bans. These are the folks you can lean on and support in this difficult moment.
The Iowa Abortion Access Fund, based in Iowa, provides financial assistance to abortion seekers in Iowa, and Iowa residents who will now have to leave the state.
The Midwest Access Coalition is a practical abortion fund that provides financial and logistical assistance to people traveling to, from, and within the Midwest to access abortion care.
The Chicago Abortion Fund provides financial, logistical, and emotional assistance to abortion seekers across the Midwest.
