A Much-Needed Season of Freshness
Welcome to the fresh growth of spring! What a balm to our nervous systems to breathe in the newness and the regrowth around us. We hope you’re able to take some time to really soak up the beauty of this season—even if it’s just five minutes of sitting outside, feeling the sun on your face, and listening to the birds chirp. It’s a reminder that we’re all still here and we’re still connected.
The new growth of spring coincides with new growth at Apiary, as well! We want to share that Odile Schalit, co-founder of Apiary and former Executive Director of the Brigid Alliance, has been appointed as Interim Executive Director. Odile brings years of experience in practical support and abortion access to the role, and we officially welcome her to the Hive! Here’s Odile, in her own words: “It is a privilege to join the team in this new capacity. Since becoming a parent in 2024, I’ve never felt more committed to supporting abortion access and the beautiful and critical work of practical support organizations. The work of Apiary and this community is more important now than ever before and I’m proud to bring my experience to lend a hand in journeying forward.”
May is also Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage month, and we want to acknowledge both the critical role that AAPI folks have played in advancing Reproductive Justice and the unique oppression that they experience. As Lisa Lim of If/When/How wrote in 2021, “Separating families through detentions and deportations is a reproductive justice issue. Viewing Asian American and Pacific Islander individuals as perpetual foreigners is a reproductive justice issue. Scapegoating AAPI children, elders, and community members as the source of a pandemic is a reproductive justice issue. Being denied safety while walking alone on the streets is a reproductive justice issue.”
We are sending you lots of warm, spring vibes and justice for AAPI folks. Keep on showing up for each other and know that we are so honored to be in community with you all. We love our hive!
Much love,
The Apiary Team
