Position Summary

Apiary for Practical Support seeks a digital brand strategist to develop an expansion and revamp for the organization’s public-facing brand identity. The brand must be accessible, cohesive, reflective of Apiary’s mission, and usable across all digital platforms, including social media, website, and email marketing.

About Apiary for Practical Support

Apiary for Practical Support offers technical assistance to groups that provide logistical care to people seeking abortions. Collaborating with practical support organizations (PSOs) and community members, we co-create and exchange information, resources, and materials for folks to use and adapt. We offer non-judgmental, non-prescriptive thought partnership for PSOs and PS-curious movement workers seeking support on how to improve or expand their programs and operations. We create spaces for PSOs to be in relationship with one another and collaborate toward shared goals.

We are deeply, unequivocally pro-abortion.

Scope of Work

We are seeking a consultant that can work with our team to provide a comprehensive branding expansion package, including visual identity and colorways, brand tone and narrative guidelines. The contractor should also be able to assist with the development of brand graphic materials to be used in the application of the new branding across various marketing materials, including website and social media.

  1. Digital Review

    1. Review the current Apiary brand guidelines and visual template

    2. In coordination with the Communications Lead and the Digital Strategy Lead, review the organization’s identity, messaging, and mission documents

    3. Assess gaps in current brand for accessibility

  2. Design

    1. Create an initial draft of a comprehensive branding package, including expanded colorways, logo variations, visual graphics guidelines, and organizational tone and language guidelines

    2. Based on feedback from the broader Apiary team, revise draft and create a finalized rebranding package

    3. Create independent graphics for website and social media, based on new visual brand, and social media graphic templates

The ideal person is:

  • An experienced brand designer with a commitment to social justice, particularly reproductive justice

  • Able to distil an organization’s identity into a visual and narrative brand

  • Experience with and a priority on design accessibility, including visual impairments and reading comprehension 

Timeline & Budget

This project is expected to take up to 2 months, with an initial draft of the brand and review period, culminating with a final brand guideline by July/mid-August 2025. 

There is a maximum budget of $10,000 for the project.

  • Your proposed high-level approach to this RFP including the area(s) of work that you are equipped to address, the deliverable(s) you would provide, and a proposed/preliminary work plan to achieve the scope of work

  • A resume, portfolio of work, or other material to show your relevant skills, experience, and qualifications

  • Any relationship you have to the abortion access movement either personally or professionally, if applicable

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Experience and success in social justice-oriented design

  • Ability to distill established organizational identity into a clear visual and narrative brand

  • Quality and clarity of the proposal

Hiring Timeline:

  • Proposal Submission Deadline: Friday, May 16th, 2025

  • Evaluation Period: Friday, May 30th, 2025

  • Contract Award: Friday, June 6th, 2025
