Finding relief in solidarity

Hey friend,

I hope you’re finding some time to enjoy summer and submerge yourself in whatever bodies of water are available to you.

Thanks to you, our incredible community of supporters, Apiary is staying afloat literally and figuratively: While the Supreme Court issued a whole new round of heinous decisions at the close of Pride Month, we were able to mark the year anniversary of Dobbs v. Jackson with a successful sustaining donor campaign.

The latest article in Apiary’s Resource Library details the wide-ranging impact of the decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, not only on the communities that have lost abortion access but also those that have had to provide for thousands of new patients forced to travel for care.

In the past year, our community has been stretched to its furthest capacity, and then some. Apiary’s mission is to keep these organizations going, increase their capacity, and grow community support for their critical services. Check out the new programs page on our website to see the scope of the work that your support makes happen.

Read on for a rundown of some exciting upcoming events and volunteer opportunities, as well as a partner spotlight on one of our very favorite organizations.

And if you haven’t already, please consider making a monthly contribution to help us and the practical support community keep on swimming. Thank you!

In solidarity,

Marisa Falcon
Executive Director
Apiary for Practical Support

PS. We’ve extended our limited edition post-Dobbs merch sale, so be sure to get your goods before July 31st! The winner of our fundraiser merch raffle will also be announced Friday on our Instagram (and via email to the winner)!

Join Apiary *live* at Netroots Nation

We are so excited to bring together some brilliant leaders and organizations together for a panel discussion at Netroots Nation this Saturday, July 15th at 3:45 PM Central:

The Parallels of Anti-Abortion and Anti-Trans Laws and What We Can Learn

For the last 50 years, right-wing policy makers have put increasingly complex laws on the books to impact how and where abortion is accessible. They are now—almost to a T—replicating those laws to limit access to gender affirming care for trans and gender non-conforming people. The result of these restrictive policies around abortion access has created a vast network of organizations that help people travel for their care which is now also starting to be replicated in trans health.

Marisa will moderate the discussion about the local, national, and legal systems that exist within abortion access and how they can be understood and leveraged to support trans people who will need to travel. Joining her are these superstar panelists:

  • Em Lawler (she/they), Repro Legal Defense Fund

  • Erin Smith (they/them), Kentucky Health Justice Network

  • Mariah Moore (she/her), Transgender Law Center

  • Walker Fitz (they/he), Midwest Access Coalition

Conference goers in Chicago can join us in-person, or you can register to stream the conversation live online. See you there!

Calling all volunteers! It’s signup time 🐝

Apiary is gearing up for round two of The Pollination Station, our practical support volunteer training series!

This three-session series covers the fundamentals of practical support grounded in the Reproductive Justice framework. Weekday and weekend session options will run through August. Upon completion of the program, applicants (aka pollinators!) are connected to their local practical support organization to hit the ground running.

Apply here or reach out to us to learn more.

Partner Spotlight: Transgender Law Center

For more than twenty years, the Transgender Law Center has provided legal services, litigation, and advocacy to end the criminalization of trans lives while creating community-driven strategies to keep transgender and gender nonconforming people alive, thriving, and fighting for liberation.

Their programs serve diverse trans communities, including people living with HIV and across intersections of race, immigration status, disability, and more. With initiatives like “We Keep Us Safe: Interrogating Hate Crime Legislation” TLC is a leader across movements, promoting dignity, bodily autonomy, and joy.

We’re honored to be presenting with TLC this weekend at Netroots and partnering in our ongoing work connecting the anti-abortion and anti-trans policies that are sweeping the country as well as community-led solutions and practical support models for resistance and care.
